Any couple divorcing in Florida will see a judge during litigation of their divorce. Many couples may forget that the judge plays a huge role in how life will be after divorce. Judges are the ones who order visitation and custody agreements, in addition to determining child support payments and other items that can play a huge role in life after one’s divorce. There are strategies that appear successful for many couples to use while in the presence of the judge, which may benefit a person in the end on a positive note.

Remembering that the judge has a legal obligation to promote fairness for all is a great start at ensuring a positive, professional relationship with the judge. It is never the judge’s intention to be unfair, although it may seem like that at times. The purpose of the judge is to attempt to end the divorce with certain orders in order to make the lives of the couple easier after the divorce.

Picking battles with a judge is always important. Keep in mind that there is not an infinite time in front of a judge, and important concerns should be noted. Although every detail is usually wanted to be told to the judge about certain things that happened in the marriage, petty things may be better avoided. If at all possible, one may wish to attempt to solve the smaller things with their spouse, rather than the judge.

Being professional and courteous to a judge may benefit one going through a Florida divorce. If one truly understands the judge’s position and his or her importance in a divorce case, it may be easier to get along with the judge. Having additional legal advice on how to be professional and help one’s case in a divorce may be beneficial.
