Xeljanz

Xeljanz treats this condition by suppressing the user’s immune systems, but unfortunately in many cases of people using Xeljanz, they have suffered higher risk of major cardiac events and blood clots. One of the most difficult things for many people to realize is that when they put their health in the hands of pharmaceutical companies they trust, it’s not a guarantee that the medication they take is 100% safe. In fact, some medications like Xeljanz actually cause very serious adverse health effects that risk the lives of the people that use them.

At the Holman Law Firm, we know how scary it can be when you come to the realization that your medication puts your life at risk. Xeljanz Lawsuit History

Previously, there have not been major mass tort cases against the manufacturer of Xeljanz because it often takes numerous years to come to a settlement. The process of filing a mass tort law claim against a large pharmaceutical company involves millions of dollars spent on attorneys and investigations into the negative side effects of a medication and how it could have been prevented. The first step in starting a mass tort against pharmaceutical companies is to collect and combine a large amount of cases in federal court. This step is called the Multi-District Litigation (MDL).

Major Events Important To Xeljanz Mass Tort

In February of 2019, the FDA warned users of Xeljanz about the results of a clinical trial involving Xeljanz that revealed results for a higher risk of blood clots in lungs. Specifically, this warning applied to patients who used 10 mg Xeljanz twice a day for the purpose of treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This is important to note because this specific dose had only been recommended and approved for people who were treating ulcerative colitis and not rheumatoid arthritis. After this warning, the manufacturer of Xeljanz transitioned this treatment to 5 mg of Xeljanz two times a day.

In July of 2019, the FDA made a public statement that they had approved warnings for Xeljanz and added a serious warning on the box. The FDA-approved box warning mentioned the risks and dangerous side effects of using 10 mg of Xeljanz two times a day for people wanting to treat RA and that the risk for blood clots or potential death still applied to people treating ulcerative colitis.

In February of 2021, the FDA issued a public statement that warned the public about the results of a clinical trial involving Xeljanz that revealed a higher risk for cancer, heart related problems, blood clots in lungs, and even death.

What Are Potential Side Effects Of Using Xeljanz

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has linked Xeljanz to a number of serious adverse side effects and medical conditions including major cardiac events, malignancies (cancer), and blood clots. Major cardiac events include cardiac arrest, heart failure, myocardial infarction, cardiovascular death, and coronary revascularization. Malignancies that have been linked to Xeljanz include colon cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and non-hodgkin’s lymphoma. Blood clots (also known as venous thromboembolisms) that have been associated to Xeljanz include pulmonary thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, ischemic stroke, deep vein thrombosis, arterial thrombosis, and transient ischemic attack.

What Can You Gain By Joining A Lawsuit Against Xeljanz?

This involves deep research and investigation into all the adverse effects you suffered from after taking Xeljanz, and the types of compensation you could receive in your settlement includes:

  • Any future medical expenses you incurred as a result of your condition
  • Wages you lost as a result of your condition (if this applies)
  • Punitive damages
  • Past and potential pain and suffering (both mental and physical) that is a direct result of your condition
