Florida parents may have to take extra steps in divorce

On Behalf of | Aug 7, 2014 | Firm News |

Divorce is sometimes a long and difficult process for those involved, but if children are involved, the process can be extended greatly. Many states take great lengths to ensure that children are properly taken care of and will be taken care of long after the divorce. Although this can be a necessary and altogether decent decision by the state, it can oftentimes drag out the divorce and the emotional pain from the process. However, hopefully the following information will help Florida parents who may be wishing to divorce.

The first decisions that are made in consideration of the children are regarding who will have custody of the children and how much child support will be paid to the parent with custody. Once the decision is made as to which parent will have custody of the child or children, the courts will then decide how much child support the non-custodial parent will pay. This is decided by looking at the number of children, the income of the parent as well as other information.

The second decision that is decided is when the non-custodial parent will be allowed to see the children, and to what extent. This could mean that they get them one night a week and every other weekend or are only allowed to see the children under supervision by the other parent. This decision depends mostly on the circumstances surrounding the situation.

Once Florida parents come to terms with the court’s decision after the divorce is finalized, time will likely heal any emotional wounds that may have been caused by the changes. When parents are better prepared for the process of a divorce, it could be much easier on everyone involved and allow everyone to begin their new lives with much hope for the future. The most important aspect is what is best for the children and helping them transition into the new situation.
