Warrant issued for producer over delinquent child support

On Behalf of | Oct 25, 2012 | Firm News |

For some people who must make child support payments, falling behind is a constant threat, but falling into delinquency can have serious legal consequences. Readers in the Pensacola area may be interested to learn that a Florida court has issued a warrant for the arrest of rap producer Scott Storch due to more than $28,000 worth of child support payments he owes to the mother of his child.

Storch apparently failed to show up to court for a child support hearing, and this is not the first time he has had trouble keeping up with his obligations. In 2008, the Canadian-born Grammy Award-winner had a run-in with the IRS over tax issues. The Beverly Hills Hotel in California has also filed a claim against Storch with local police, claiming that Storch skipped out on a bill worth $4,000.

Falling behind on child support may lead to additional fines, probation or even imprisonment. Educating oneself on one’s rights under the law may mean the difference between freedom and imprisonment if there is not enough money in the budget to make ends meet while keeping up with court-mandated payments.

For those who struggle to make payments, there may be an option to seek a modification through the courts. But it’s important to go through the legal process. Courts order child support based on the best interests of the children involved, and they do not look favorably upon those who simply skip payments without trying to seek a modification.
