Now, when Pensacola couples decide to part ways, some of these individuals are turning to divorce coaches for assistance with the sometimes arduous journey of returning to single status.
According to a recent article, divorce coaches have been around since the 1990s. Although an attorney typically handles the legal issues involved with dividing the marital household, such as property division, child custody and spousal support, divorce coaches help their clients deal with the mental, physical and emotional stresses of separating from their spouses. A couple may choose to work with several coaches who each specialize in a different area such as finance or counseling.
These professionals charge upward of several hundred dollars per hour, so those interested in hiring divorce coaches to help them end their marriages should research the coaches involved before choosing one. The industry is still very new; therefore, there is no government or formal industry regulation in place. No specific education or licensing is required to become a divorce coach, so unfortunately, ‘you’ll have to do your homework before you hire someone, or make sure you’re also working with an attorney.
People should be cautious about following legal advice given to them by a divorce coach, and legal opinions should always be confirmed with a knowledgeable source. A divorce coach can provide excellent support during the divorce process, but ultimately, it’s important to ensure that you’re also getting the legal support you need to create a comprehensive divorce settlement that will hold up for years to come.
